INSTALLATION OF A THREE-DIMENSIONAL STEREOSCOPIC SYSTEM IN ELCHE MUSEUM OF PALEONTOLOGY

INSTALLATION OF A THREE-DIMENSIONAL STEREOSCOPIC SYSTEM IN ELCHE MUSEUM OF PALEONTOLOGY

2008, Jun 25

Atlantis Virtual Reality, Spanish company specialized in producing three-dimensional and virtual reality systems for the leisure sector, together with Elche Museum of Paleontology (M.U.P.E.), has developed ECHOSYSTEM 3D. It consists of the use of virtual reality systems in order to make the information provided in museums more easily comprehensible by strengthening the recreational and cultural aspects of the museum’s facilities. With these systems, users will interact at different levels with the pieces displayed

Atlantis is able to recreate species and environments which are unlikely or impossible to be seen because of different factors such as climate change, big-sized species which demands a natural specific habitat or endangered or already extinguished species.

The interest arose with this project lies in the ability of reproducing not only the specific habitat but also in the interaction with the environment and with the rest of specimens of any specie of any period.

System specifications

Echosystem 3D is a unique and revolutionary system consisting of a virtual diorama or paleoenvironment which shows marine species from the Cambrian period but it can also represents terrestrial ecosystems. Not only is it interesting the way this system could bring closer users and species, but also how animals interact with visitors in such a completely natural way.

This system makes possible the visualization of animals in their own habitat since they are all artificial intelligence provided and so, they feed themselves, breed, etc.

The first paleoenvironment will show the Cambrian sea at the origins of life. The system will be subsequently updated with other paleoenvironments of different periods such as the Jurassic or Quaternary that museums consider of their interest.

Atlantis is already working on these technologies in order to add 3D surrounding systems so that the general public experiences the simulation as if they were part of it. Furthermore, Atlantis VR plans on creating digital leisure centers in which technology and visual effects reach their magnificence in favor of leisure.
